Grunge bars, but with cheap beer (with a young crowd, including lycéens):
L'Objectif Lune, rue de la Roquette: 3€ pints until 10pm, then 4.90€ until midnight (or 1am?) then ... 7.6€!!!!
This bar is getting to be quite well known and can be quite packed because it is tiny... but there is a high turnover just wait a quarter of an hour and seats will become available.
The Hideout pub chain:
Chatelet, rue de Lappe (Bastille), etc. Cheap until 9pm; thu all evening (might be changed now, check for yourself)Some bars on rue de Lappe have happy hour until 2300, or midnight.
For a nice compromise between cheap prices and nice environment with a friendly staff, I recommend Charlotte bar, rue de Lappe.
4€ pint and 5€ cocktails from 4pm until 10pm. It's right next door to the outrageously expensive Route 66 bar.
Le Cristal has good prices, but is often packed out, especially when the good weather comes around.
It also sells "pintes batardes" à 40cl and not what typically passes for a pint, 50cl.
That may have changed, but I haven't been back to check...
