Young Learners & Drama / Literature Start-of-the-Year Symposium

Learn to Play - Play to Learn

Play in ELT can take a variety of forms according to the aim of the lesson and the age and level of the student group. Play in the early childhood classroom is mainly kinesthetic and, apart from its linguistic benefits, helps pupils improve self-control and restrain impulsive behavior. In this age of digital technologies, play, too, has been digitalized.
Young learners nowadays are born and raised in a digital world and thus a great part of their learning, socialization and play takes place in a digital environment.
As a consequence, language teachers need to be exposed to fresh ideas to approach their young learners through the language of digital technologies. However, play is not only games, it's also drama.
Any form of drama in the ELT classroom from simple role play activities to more elaborate drama helps students explore the English language and make literature meaningful. Moreover, drama gives students opportunities to develop their production skills in dynamic situations. All the world is a stage; the stage for ELT in September, however, is the Start-of-the-Year Symposium!
