News from Avanti Europe!

10/05/2013

Dear Avantistas,
Thank you so much for supporting our movement and our first campaign,
launched on the 25th March 2013, calling for solidarity with the
people in Greece and a revision of austerity policies in Europe.

In this communication, we would like to share with you an update on
the campaign and some thoughts.

First some numbers: over 3.000 signatures on the Avanti Europe
website, 3.000 signatures on change.org, more than 3.200 'likes' on
Facebook
<http://listsrv.eworx.gr/lt.php?id=MEQCV1dTBFZcAQFEBw1QBEgGU1dUDg%3D%3D>
and some 620 followers on Twitter
<http://listsrv.eworx.gr/lt.php?id=MEQCV1dTBFZcAQBEBw1QBEgGU1dUDg%3D%3D>
, 7.500 views of the campaign video and over 13.800 unique visitors on
our website mainly from Greece, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Italy
and the UK. We also secured the support of over 30 civil society
organisations, NGOs and platforms, active at European as well as at
national levels (the full list of partners is available on the
campaign page, selecting 'supporters'
<http://listsrv.eworx.gr/lt.php?id=MEQCV1dTBFZcAQNEBw1QBEgGU1dUDg%3D%3D>
).

Moreover, six 'offline' actions have been organized by our activists
and partners, gathering a few hundreds of citizens in Athens, Alcalá,
Bonn, Maastricht, Madrid and Thessaloniki, with numerous photos and
videos taken as well as interviews describing the lives of ordinary
Greeks and a dozen of press articles.

All of the above have been done in just 8 weeks thanks to you and our
volunteers.

You can view some photos of the campaign and the offline actions on
the campaign page, selecting 'images'

and we also encourage you to visit our YouTube channel
<http://listsrv.eworx.gr/lt.php?id=MEQCV1dTBFZcAQJEBw1QBEgGU1dUDg%3D%3D>
to watch some of the exciting action, videos and interviews.

Our launch campaign was aiming to show that austerity-only policies
impede economic growth and have a devastating social impact. This view
is now gaining more traction as we've recently seen more political
leaders calling for less austerity, like the new Italian PM Enrico
Letta
<http://listsrv.eworx.gr/lt.php?id=MEQCV1dTBFZcAQ1EBw1QBEgGU1dUDg%3D%3D>
, France's finance minister Moscovici, EP President Martin
<http://listsrv.eworx.gr/lt.php?id=MEQCV1dTBFZcAQxEBw1QBEgGU1dUDg%3D%3D>
Schulz
<http://listsrv.eworx.gr/lt.php?id=MEQCV1dTBFZcAQxEBw1QBEgGU1dUDg%3D%3D>
and several others.

This was just the starting point for Avanti Europe. We trust that we
will soon launch more campaigns on European-related topics and
gradually offer participatory tools in order to grow our community of
members and contribute to strengthening democracy by mobilizing and
giving a stronger voice to European citizens, that is you!

Avanti Europe can go nowhere without your endorsement, help and
support. We welcome your feedback and count on your active
participation so please do not hesitate to contact us with your
suggestions at info@avantieurope.eu.

For the time being, we would like to ask you to tell your friends
about Avanti Europe and sign
<http://listsrv.eworx.gr/lt.php?id=MEQCV1dTBFZcAAVEBw1QBEgGU1dUDg%3D%3D>
and share the Avanti Europe manifesto
<http://listsrv.eworx.gr/lt.php?id=MEQCV1dTBFZcAAVEBw1QBEgGU1dUDg%3D%3D>
which describes our vision for a better Europe.

A fairer, prosperous, social and democratic Europe, empowered by its
citizens for its citizens!

With our warmest regards,

The Avanti Europe team
