Dear friends,
Wolf hunting is back.

It's a top priority project on Von der Leyen's desk, and if we don't act fast, hundreds of wolves will soon be shot dead all over Europe.

Chased for centuries close to eradication, wolves have recovered thanks to a strict conservation policy—with a positive impact on species regulations and biodiversity.

But old fears and misconceptions have resurfaced, and now the EU Commission wants to downgrade wolves from "strictly protected" to "protected" without any reliable scientific data to back it up.

We can save these intelligent and social canines from slaughter.

In a few weeks, EU member states will cast their votes. Predictions are that it will be tight and Ursula von der Leyen is using all her political influence to push the downgrade through. Dozens of environmental organisations are gearing up for a massive mobilisation across Europe—add your name and share with your friends: We must coexist with wolves, not kill them!
Wolves have made a remarkable comeback to Europe's landscapes, largely due to the legal protection they are granted. They play a key role in maintaining ecosystem balance and healthy biodiversity - - by selecting the most vulnerable prey, wolves can reduce the incidence of diseases.

If it is true that owners face challenges to protect their livestock, hunting is not the solution - - and could even worsen the situation by repelling wolf packs back into populated areas. Preventive measures such as electric fences or guard dogs have proved effective, and new and innovative solutions can be collectively found.

But despite experts' warnings, Ursula von der Leyen, possibly shocked by the killing of her pony by a wolf last year, has decided to push for the hunting "solution".

EU countries will soon be voting on this proposal. Let's unite now to supercharge the voices of environmental defenders and stop wolf hunting in Europe. Sign and share.
Every time a political decision is taken away from citizens by lobbies, our community has a crucial role to play. Let's prevent major environmental setbacks like this one by shining a light on and defending wild animals and the conservation of biodiversity.

With hope and determination,
